Niger's junta leader General Abdourahamane Tiani received a Russian delegation of more than 100 government officials and businesspeople led by Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev at the presidential cabinet on October 2, following the first session of the Niger-Russia Intergovernmental Mixed Commission, according to Niger's state news agency ANP ANP. Tiani instructed both parties to accelerate implementation of projects identified during the talks ahead of the Russia-Africa summit scheduled for October 28-29 in Moscow Alwihda Info.

Discussions spanned energy, mining, agriculture, transport, health, education and vocational training, and Tsivilev said a series of decisions had already been reached during the morning working session, though neither side itemized specific agreements, figures or timelines Nigerdiaspora. Several Nigerien ministers attended the audience, including the Mines Minister, the interim Foreign Affairs Minister, the presidential chief of staff and the Energy Minister Echos Medias.

The visit builds on Niger's post-coup pivot toward Moscow across security and now broader economic sectors, following France's 2023 troop withdrawal. The Russia-Africa summit, the third such gathering after Sochi in 2019 and Saint Petersburg in 2023, will bring together delegations from more than 30 African countries and include an economic and humanitarian forum covering trade, investment, energy, payment systems and food security, according to Russian and regional reporting on the event.
