Road users described multiple illegal toll points on the Gao–N’Tilllit route in accounts published on 2 November. At one checkpoint, gunmen reportedly demanded 100,000 CFA francs per bus and 10,000 per passenger; at another, the charges were 50,000 per bus and 5,000 per passenger.

Across those two checkpoints, the reported charges total 150,000 CFA francs for a bus and 15,000 for each passenger. Some travellers said they had to borrow money to continue. The armed men’s affiliation and when the checkpoints began operating remain unclear.
