Burkina Faso’s telecommunications regulator signed three bilateral roaming agreements in Ouagadougou on 23 October, covering Benin, Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal. The arrangements are intended to let travellers retain their existing SIM cards while using mobile services abroad under more accessible and transparent conditions.
The practical beneficiaries would include traders, transporters, families and professionals moving between the countries. But the signing should not be read as an immediate change to every subscriber’s bill: the UEMOA Commission and regulators called for effective implementation so that the promised benefits reach users.
