The national higher-education and research union, CEN-SNESUP, extended its strike from 2 November until its demand over the research allowance is satisfied. The renewal follows a stoppage that began on 26 October; teaching activities were suspended in at least 13 institutions during that first week.

The union says participation exceeded 90% and accused the government of failing to engage in negotiations during the initial stoppage. The allowance is provided for under the October 2017 status of teacher-researchers, but its amount and implementation arrangements remain unresolved. The renewed action leaves affected institutions without a fixed return-to-teaching date.
