Checks by Chad’s standards agency, ATNOR, on 23–24 October found cement bags labelled 50 kilograms weighing only 47–48 kilograms. Steel sold as 12-millimetre reinforcing bar measured 10 millimetres, while some nominally 10-millimetre bars measured eight or seven millimetres.
Managers of the offending shops were summoned. The findings concern the 11 inspected establishments; no wider market estimate, product recall or final penalty was announced. For buyers, the discrepancies mean receiving less material than purchased and steel that does not match the specified dimensions.
