Chad had recorded 250 confirmed dengue cases, more than 3,000 suspected cases and eight deaths, according to an official assessment presented at a health ministry press conference in N’Djamena on October 19, 2026. (tchadinfos.com)

Five provinces affected

Dr Fissou Henry Yandaï, the response’s incident manager, identified Wadi Fira, Ouaddaï, Sila, Batha and N’Djamena as affected provinces. The outbreak was declared on October 3 and was described as Chad’s second dengue epidemic after the 2023 outbreak. The October 19 announcement therefore updates an existing emergency rather than marking its beginning. (tchadinfos.com)

The ministry urged residents to eliminate stagnant water, improve environmental sanitation, protect themselves against mosquito bites and promptly bring people with suspected symptoms to health facilities. The reported totals distinguish suspected from confirmed infections; the larger suspected-case count should not be presented as laboratory-confirmed disease. (tchadinfos.com)
