Mauritania and France signed the two financing agreements on 2 November. The €21 million civil-protection loan is intended to expand emergency-response capacity through a national school, ten newly built and equipped centres, a volunteer corps and reactivation of a free emergency-reporting telephone number.

The separate €4 million financing memorandum supports Nouakchott’s industrial technical and vocational school, including equipment and instructor development in refrigeration, electricity, welding and carpentry. The announcement did not provide the loan’s interest rate, maturity or disbursement schedule, or completion dates for the new emergency facilities.
