Ten people died when a building under construction collapsed in Dioïla’s Tripanobougou neighbourhood on 17 October 2026, Mali’s national news agency reported on 18 October. Rescue and investigation
According to AMAP, the collapse occurred at approximately 15:00, shortly after work on the upper-floor slab had been completed. Workers, family members and visitors were eating inside when the structure failed. Firefighters, civil-protection personnel, police, residents and construction-company teams participated in the response; ten bodies were recovered. (amap.ml)
Prosecutor Sarafily Coulibaly opened a judicial investigation. The person responsible for the construction site was taken to the police station for questioning; the report does not establish criminal responsibility. Regional Governor General Kéba Sangaré visited the site and injured survivors on 18 October. (amap.ml)
Injury figures differ between reports
A separate Maliweb report published on 18 October gave five injured, rather than AMAP’s seven. The death toll of ten is consistent across those accounts, but the injury total remains discrepant. The cause of the structural failure had not been established in the reporting reviewed. (maliweb.net)
