The Assembly adopted a bill covering the loan agreement on 27 October, advancing financing for Mauritania’s Senegal River valley resilience and community development project. The agreement with Spain’s Instituto de Crédito Oficial was signed on 17 July 2026.
The loan carries an annual interest rate of 1.42%, a 30-year repayment period and five years’ grace. Planned investments cover access to basic infrastructure and services, connections between communities, local economic development and emergency response in targeted border areas.
Deputies welcomed the financing terms but called for sector-level evaluation teams and results-monitoring committees. The parliamentary approval concerns the financing agreement; the government has not provided a disbursement date, construction schedule or detailed allocation among beneficiary communities.
