Chad has launched an initiative to modernize primary education through the progressive deployment of 39,000 tablets and 39,000 power banks for public primary-school teachers and local pedagogical supervisors. The official handover ceremony took place on October 23, 2026, at the National Curriculum Center, marking a significant step in the country’s efforts to improve teaching quality and learning outcomes. The project is part of the Basic Education Learning Outcomes Improvement Project (PARAEB), supported by the World Bank and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).

The initiative aims to address persistent challenges in Chad’s education system, where many students complete primary school without mastering basic reading and arithmetic skills. Each teacher receives a preconfigured tablet containing official curricula, teacher guides, lesson plans, and adapted pedagogical resources. The distribution targets teachers from the first to the final year of primary school (CP1 to CM2), with the first phase covering 9,375 teachers across four academies. The tablets and power banks are allocated to both public sector teachers and local pedagogical supervisors.

The World Bank’s representative, Aboubakar Walbani, said the equipment serves as a daily support tool to improve pedagogical and administrative management. Elen Agladze, UNOPS partnership advisor, highlighted her organization’s ongoing commitment to ensuring access to education and promoting digital learning for all teachers. The World Bank’s representative, Aboubakar Walbani, stressed that sustainable reform depends on well-trained and supported teachers, noting that the World Bank has backed Chad’s education sector since April 2022.

The project is scheduled to run through October 2027, following a precise implementation calendar. Chad’s education ministry, represented by Secretary General Nicolas Vaïbré, reiterated the government’s commitment to improving teaching quality and urged teachers to use the devices responsibly and pedagogically. The report does not specify the geographic breakdown of the distribution, the quality of teacher training on the devices, or the conditions for sustained classroom use. The operation was officially declared launched at the ceremony, with expressions of gratitude to technical and financial partners.
