The second meeting of the Africa–Indian Ocean Air Traffic Services Event Analysis Group (AEAG/2) concluded in N'Djamena, Chad, on 15 October 2026, after four days dedicated to air-navigation safety. During the meeting, experts reviewed nearly 800 air traffic service (ATS) events that occurred in 2024 and 2025, with the goal of identifying root causes and defining corrective measures to enhance aviation safety across the region.
The gathering brought together representatives from national aviation authorities, air-navigation service providers, regional organizations, and industry stakeholders. The participants worked on incidents reported by states, service providers, and sector actors. To facilitate a comprehensive analysis, three multidisciplinary working groups were formed, involving pilots, air-navigation specialists, operations experts, and airport and runway professionals. This approach followed recommendations from the group's first meeting, held in Libreville.
The multidisciplinary method enabled the identification of root causes, contributing factors, and priority areas for action. The main objective of the meeting was to translate these analyses into concrete measures to prevent the recurrence of similar incidents in African airspace. The director general of Chad's Civil Aviation Authority (ADAC), Brahim Guihini Dadi, highlighted the significance of the meeting for regional aviation safety and expressed pride in Chad's role as host.
Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Transport, Civil Aviation, and National Meteorology, Fatima Goukouni Weddeye, Dadi emphasized that air-navigation safety knows no borders and that incidents in one control zone can affect adjacent airspaces, crews, and passengers. He praised the quality of the discussions, the spirit of cooperation, and the professionalism of the participants, as well as the support from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the African and Malagasy Civil Aviation Authorities (AAMAC), and regional safety oversight organizations.
The director general of ADAC committed to contributing to the effective implementation of the recommendations resulting from the AEAG/2 meeting.
